In
order to explore opportunities to promote further collaboration between
Japan and ASEAN by studying the details of the S&T Plans for the
economic integration of ASEAN, Japan had organized an ASEAN-Japan
S&T Cooperation Symposium. Organized by GRIPS Innovation, Science
and Technology Policy Program (GIST), National Graduate Institute for
Policy Studies (GRIPS), and the Takeda Foundation, BPPT was one of the
participants invited to the symposium.
The symposium that supported by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JIST) and JICA had two topics for the discussion, as follows:
1. Promotion of regional Innovation and Open Innovation Research Centers, participated by the speakers from Head of Science and technology Division (Alexander Lim), the Head of Japan Science and Technology Agency in Singapore office (Osamu Kobayashi), the Manager of Department of International Affairs of JST (Geng Tu), the Executive Director of Education and Special Project Development of Panyapiwat Institute of Management (Paritud Bhandhubanyong), and the Director of the Center of Research network for Infectious Deseases of RIKEN (Yoshiyuki Nagai).
2. Regional Development and Movement of Human Resources, participated by the speakers from the Visiting Senior Advisor (Education) of Human Development Department of Japan International Cooperation Agency (Nobuko Kabayashi), the Deputy Director of School of Transportation Engineering of Hanoi University of Science and Technology (Le Anh Tuan), and Deputy chairman of the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology, Indonesia (Tatang A. Taufik).
In the symposium, Taufik shared his presentation about Strengthening Japan-ASEAN Partnership: BPPT’s STI Initiatives. In his conclusion, he mentioned the Important Areas For Collaborations were as follows:
1. HR exchange - Technical experts from more advanced countries needed are sustainable regional development, technopreneurship, business incubators, innovation funding, creative industries, renewable energy, functional foods, health development & management, ICT, disaster management & technology, and advanced material engineering.
2. Area of importance for HR to be sent abroad are: science and technology innovation policies, technical knowledge such as renewable energy, environmental engineering, biomedical engineering, disaster management & technology, and advanced material engineering
3. Collaborative projects are: ‘basic need technological projects’, technopark/technopole or open innovation centers, technology transfer, SME development, and innovative funding. (hk)
